Looking to freshen up your look this Winter? It can be easy to ask for the same thing every time you go to the barbers, but, sometimes it’s good to change things up.
With so many hairstyles to choose from, we have whittled down the latest men’s hair trends to our five current favourites. From the modern undercut to the classic slicked back style, there is something here to suit every taste and hair type
Undercut
The undercut is said to be the top trending men’s haircut right now. This distinctive short to medium-length style contrasts the top with the sides. It also works well with straight, curly or wavy hair types and is very versatile.
Variations include the disconnected undercut, where the hair on the top of the head is disconnected from the sides to create a clearly defined line. The hair on top can either be left long for a defined look or cut to a medium length for a more subtle look.
You can also opt for a contemporary slicked back undercut, which is known as a very fashionable men’s look. The key to this style is using a good-quality pomade which will give hair that classic glossy shine.
If you decided to try out this style, we recommend investing in a wide-toothed comb and using a hairdryer and hair mousse to create volume. This style tends to work best for men with oval and square-shaped faces, which you can find out more about here
Quiff
The iconic quiff cut is very similar to the undercut, but the difference lies in the top of the hair. It features a bulge of hair at the front of the head which is styled upwards and back to create a smart but striking look.
If you’re after a more relaxed variation, you may want to opt for the textured quiff. This less formal style will involve your barber chopping into the ends to create texture.
A hairdryer can be used to create volume, with some matt clay to sculpt your style. We love the Aveda Men Pure-formance™ Grooming Clay for a strong hold with a matt finish.
When it comes to choosing your quiff style, it’s important to consider your face shape. It can be adapted to different face shapes but is particularly suited to those looking to elongate a round face.
Caesar
The Caesar, which is named after the Roman general, Julius Caesar, is a classic look which continues to be stylish every year. This short length haircut is characterized by hair that is pushed forwards with a small, horizontally cut fringe.
It is best suited to men with straight to slightly wavy hair which can be either thin or thick. Variations include the caesar with an undercut, which creates a sophisticate and modern look.
One of the key benefits of this cut is that it is easy to style using a good wax or pomade and a comb. Square and triangle face shapes are best suited to this style.
Fade
Fade haircuts are known as being one of the most popular haircuts for men of all ages. It is also very versatile and can be adapted to different tastes and hair lengths.
Barbers will use clippers to fade the hair from a short length to short stubble in a seamless blur. There are many types of fade haircut to choose from including a low fade or mid fade, which can be customised to your face shape.
If you’re after a more understated look, we suggest going for a low fade which is both stylish and smart. This can then be customised with different styles on the top including a pompadour or ivy-league.
Slicked Back
We are also big fans of the timeless slicked back hairstyle which continues to be very popular. Whether you have short or long hair, it creates a classy but formal look.
There are many variations to this cut including the slicked back undercut and the low or mid fade slick back. Luckily, the slicked back style tends to work well on many different face shapes. It may not work as well for men with curly or unruly hair as will be hard to keep it in place.
For a classic style, we recommend using a shiny pomade such as the Aveda Men Pure-formance™Pomade.
