How to Groom Men’s Eyebrows
17th July 2020
So you already get regular trims and keep your facial hair in check, but what about your eyebrows? While taking care of your eyebrows can seem like less of a priority, they are a defining feature on your face and it’s important to keep them looking their best.
Taking a bit of time in your self-care routine to groom them can immediately create a neater appearance. You also don’t need to spend hours on them, a few simple steps can make a huge difference!
How to groom your eyebrows for men
We like to think we know quite a bit about grooming here at Cutters Yard, so here are our top tips on how to groom men’s eyebrows.
1. Get to know the rules for shaping eyebrows
Before you get started, there are a few things to keep in mind when shaping your eyebrows. Symmetry is very important, so you should ensure each eyebrow is a mirror of the other. To avoid a unibrow, it’s also vital to measure where your brows should start and end.
To check where they should start, use a pencil or eyebrow shaping comb to ensure your eyebrows begin proportionally to your nose. To check where they should end, use your pencil again and hold it diagonally against your nose and up towards your eye’s outer corner.
2. Choose your grooming option
There are many different grooming options to choose from so make sure you choose the option best suited for both the thickness of your brows and your pain threshold!
– Plucking
For many, basic eyebrow plucking offers a great way to precisely groom them by removing one hair at a time. We recommend combing through your brows first so you can easily identify the stray hairs to be plucked and start plucking from the bottom.
– Trimmers or scissors
If you have very bushy eyebrows, you might want to consider using an electric trimmer or scissors to reduce thickness. Before you trim, take a hot shower or apply a wet washcloth to open up the skin pores. Brush your eyebrows upwards using a comb and trim any hairs longer than the others.
– Waxing
If you’d prefer to wax your hairs off, a hard wax is recommended as it tends to offer more precision. You should use a pre-wax cleanser and apply wax in the opposite direction to hair growth.
Wait for it to dry before pressing down hard and pulling the strip off against the direction of growth. Or alternatively, you could get a professional to do this!
No matter which option you go for, make sure you don’t overdo it. Take care and don’t take too much hair off at once, as you may end up regretting it.
3. Invest in some eyebrow products
Finally, we recommend investing in some products to help tame your brows. A brow gel can help hold your brows in place and keep their shape. Meanwhile, an eyebrow pencil can be used as a guide for your shape or to give a more defined look.
If you want to grow thicker brows, there are a few products, such as castor oil and coconut oil, that encourage hair growth.
