How to Get Rid of Dark Circles for Men
2nd October 2020
Most men have woken up after a poor night’s sleep to the vision of puffy eyes and dark circles. But why do they show up and how can you get rid of them?
Although dark circles under the eyes are most commonly caused by fatigue, there are several other causes including dehydration, poor diet and ageing.
While there is no one size fits all approach, there are numerous ways you can get rid of dark circles or significantly improve their appearance. Here are some of our best tips for dark circles which you can easily try out at home.
-
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep
It may seem like a no brainer, but ensuring you get enough sleep is one of the best ways to get rid of dark circles. Sleep deprivation causes the blood vessels under the thin skin of the eyes to dilate, creating a dark tint and a puffy effect.
While sleep requirements vary from person to person, it is recommended that most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. It’s easy for life to get in the way and affect your sleep, but making sure you get in plenty of zzz’s is important for feeling and looking your best.
-
Drink more water
Dehydration is another common cause for dark circles as when your body isn’t receiving an adequate amount of water, the skin begins to look dull.
There are many different opinions as to how much water you should get and it again varies per person and how active you are. In general, you should aim for 2 litres per day to give your body the hydration it needs.
-
Improve your diet
Eating a healthy diet is important for your general health but is also known as a solution for eliminating dark circles. One of the key vitamins you need to get into your diet is Vitamin K which helps with blood coagulation and circulation.
This vitamin can be found in vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, green leafy vegetables and spinach and can help lighten those circles under your eyes.
-
Use an eye mask
Another way of improving the appearance of dark circles is by using a soothing eye mask to help reduce inflammation. This will provide some much-needed hydration and cool the skin under the eyes.
Alternatively, you can also use cooled tea bags which contain antioxidants within the caffeine to increase blood flow to the skin.

Invest in some skincare products
Even if you have had plenty of sleep, the natural ageing process can, unfortunately, cause the dark circles under your eyes to increase. So, it’s worth investing in some products to help with this.
To avoid sun damage, it’s important to incorporate an SPF or moisturiser containing SPF into your daily routine. We love the sheer and weightless Daily Light Guard™ Defense Fluid Broad Spectrum SPF 30.
Using a daily eye cream is also a great way of reducing dark circles, puffiness and the signs of ageing. We are big fans of the Botanical Kinetics™ Energizing Eye Creme which uses plant energy to give the skin a boost and brighten the look of skin around your eyes.
