With barbershops intermittently closing due to lockdown in the United Kingdom, you may be wondering how to take care of your hair at home. Whether you want to grow your hair out or maintain a style, there are plenty of ways you can keep your hair looking it’s best.
As hair care experts, we are here to help. Keep reading to find out our top men’s hair care tips during lockdown.
- Keep up your hair’s condition
One of the best ways to care for your hair at home is to keep up its condition. As your hair grows and we aren’t able to trim the damaged ends, it’s important to use a good shampoo to keep it healthy.
We love Aveda’s Men Pure-Formance™ Shampoo which refreshes the scalp whilst cleansing and moisturising the hair. By giving your hair the nourishment it needs, it will create the optimal environment for healthy hair growth.
While many men tend to skip conditioner from their hair care routine, it is very beneficial. By conditioning the hair around twice a week, it will further strengthen and nourish it. For men with longer hair, it’s also a great way of getting rid of tangles and making it easier to comb.
We recommend following up your shampoo with Aveda’s Men Pure-Formance™ Conditioner, which has a rich, spicy and refreshing aroma.
- Give your hair a break
Since you’ll be spending a lot of time at home, the lockdown is a great chance to give your hair a break. Regularly using heat on your hair can result in it becoming dry, brittle and damaged.
So, we recommend air-drying your hair where possible. However, if you do choose to use heat, you should invest in a heat protectant spray. The Aveda Heat Relief™ Thermal Protector & Conditioning Mist protects hair from heat up to 450 degrees and instantly conditions it.
It might also be a time to cut down on the amount of hair product you use in your hair. Using too much styling product can weigh it down and prevent moisture from reaching the hair shaft.
- Avoid cutting all your hair off
While it may be tempting to just shave all your hair off, we don’t recommend doing this. You may expect that anyone can pull off a buzz cut, however, it is only suited to certain face shapes.
We also don’t suggest grabbing your kitchen scissors and expecting to achieve a great haircut. Tidying up the ends to maintain your style is suggested, but you should leave your hairstyle to the professionals.
- Try out a longer style
If you usually stick to a shorter hairstyle, this might be the time to try growing it out and trying something new. It’s worth noting that long hairstyles tend to work best on men with medium to thick hair and with a slight wave.
While there is no quick fix to make your hair grow faster, keeping it in a good condition will certainly help. Avoid washing your hair daily and stick to only a few times a week.
You’ll also need to invest in good brush or comb to get rid of any tangles. Brushing your hair before you get in the shower can also reduce tangles and help to avoid breakage.
